75 Gallon Water Heater

Install a 75-gallon gas traditional atmospheric water heater. Installation includes code-compliant components like an expansion tank, sediment trap, temperature and pressure (T&P) relief valve, and seismic straps, ensuring reliable hot water delivery, enhanced safety, and durability in seismic zones.

Location: Interior (garage)

Tasks:

Preparation:

1. Shut off gas and water supply, then remove and drain existing water heater.

2. Set up work area with tools (pipe wrench, vent pipe cutter, level, PPE) and drop cloths.

Heater Installation:

1. Position 75-gallon water heater on a level base, ensuring clearance for maintenance.

2. Connect cold water inlet and hot water outlet using copper or PEX piping with dielectric unions.

3. Install seismic straps (upper and lower thirds) to secure heater to wall or floor, per local codes.

Venting and Component Installation:

1. Install vent piping, per manufacturer specifications.

2. Install expansion tank on cold water inlet and T&P relief valve with 3/4-inch copper/CPVC discharge line.

3. Install sediment trap (3-inch drip leg) on gas line to protect burner assembly.

Testing:

1. Connect gas line and perform leak test using a gas detector or soapy water solution.

2. Test burner ignition and verify proper venting of exhaust gases to the exterior.

3. Run water through heater to check T&P valve, expansion tank, and hot water delivery.

Cleanup and Final Steps:

1. Dispose of old water heater and debris per local regulations.

2. Provide client with user manual and explain venting system maintenance.

3. Conduct walkthrough to demonstrate heater functionality and safety features.

Notes:

- Advise client to inspect vent pipes and T&P valve annually.

- Estimate valid for 60 days from issuance

- Includes permit fees (if required)

- Unforeseen issues or additional work will be quoted separately with client approval

- Exclusions: Drywall, paint, stucco, tile, concrete, stone repairs, or existing water damage
