Sales-TonyEarthquake Gas Safety Valve 1-1/2" Horizontal
Install a 1-1/2-inch horizontal earthquake gas safety valve on the gas supply line to automatically interrupt gas flow during a seismic event, mitigating the risk of gas leaks and fire hazards. The valve detects ground accelerations above a preset threshold (typically 0.3g, per ASCE 25-97 standards), triggering a mechanical shut-off to isolate the gas supply. Designed for horizontal gas lines in commercial or industrial settings, this valve ensures compliance with seismic safety codes. The installation minimizes disruption to existing gas systems, enhances safety for occupants, and is essential for earthquake-prone regions.
Location: Exterior (Gas Meter or Horizontal Run)
Tasks:
Preparation:
1. Confirm gas line size (1-1/2-inch) and suitability for horizontal valve installation.
2. Shut off gas supply at the main meter and verify no open flames or sparks.
3. Set up work area with tools (pipe wrench, thread sealant, level, PPE) and barriers.
Valve Installation:
1. Identify optimal installation point on horizontal gas line, ensuring accessibility and code compliance.
2. Cut gas pipe using a pipe cutter and deburr edges for a smooth connection.
3. Install 1-1/2-inch earthquake gas safety valve with threaded connections, using thread sealant for gas-tight fit.
4. Verify valve is level in horizontal orientation to ensure accurate seismic detection.
Connection and Sealing:
1. Connect valve to upstream and downstream gas lines using fittings (e.g., unions or couplings).
2. Apply pipe dope or PTFE tape to threaded connections to prevent leaks.
3. Secure valve to structure with brackets to prevent movement, per manufacturer guidelines.
Testing:
1. Restore gas supply and test for leaks using a gas detector or soapy water solution at connections.
2. Simulate seismic trigger (if permitted) to confirm valve shut-off functionality.
3. Verify valve resets correctly after testing, following manufacturer instructions.
Cleanup and Final Steps:
1. Clean work area and dispose of debris per local regulations.
2. Attach valve operation instructions and warning tags for client reference.
3. Conduct client walkthrough to explain valve function, reset process, and maintenance.
Notes:
- Automatically shuts off gas during seismic events to prevent leaks and fires.
- Requires annual inspection to ensure proper function; client advised to schedule maintenance.
- Gas line modifications or meter relocation quoted separately if needed.
- Estimate valid for 30 days from issuance
- Permit fees, if required, are included as a separate line item
