I am old enough to have bought three roofs for various houses. Garlock French is the best. Roofs have come a long way from a roll of tar paper, flashing to prevent water infiltration, and shingles/shakes, tiles. Climate change demands larger gutters for rain and tougher shingles to withstand larger hail. Building codes have become more demanding. We removed our chimney and needed to patch the roof, which is EPDM plus rigid insulation plus 2x6 tongue and groove boards that are both the roof deck and the interior ceiling. Complicated!
