Harvard Slate Roof with Slant-Back Vents in Indianapolis

Project Description

Harvard Slate shingles were selected for this house-only roof replacement in Indianapolis. Indy Roof & Restoration completed laminated-shingle tear-off and installation, including work at second-story height.

The roof system combined IKO Cambridge AR shingles with matching Harvard Slate hip-and-ridge material. Beneath the shingles, the specified assembly included Tarco LeakBarrier ice-and-water protection and ABC Pro Guard 20 synthetic underlayment, with IKO Leading Edge Plus starter shingles at the roof edges.

The roofing work included 39 linear feet of hip-and-ridge installation. Four black slant-back static roof vents and pipe flashing were also included in the completed roofing scope.

Two satellite dishes were detached and reset as part of the roof replacement. The project was limited to the house roofing, with the existing gutters excluded from replacement.

Natural Wood Highlander NEX Roofing and Custom Skylights on Sutherland Avenue

Project Description

Storm-damaged skylights formed part of an insurance restoration project at a home on Sutherland Avenue in Indianapolis. Indy Roof & Restoration developed a replacement scope for the house's shingle roofing, including its steep and mansard sections. The homeowner selected Natural Wood Malarkey Highlander NEX AR shingles and the Weather Shield roofing package. A later customer-paid contract added full gutter and downspout replacement.

The roof's spaced-board decking required an OSB layover during construction. The project manager confirmed 166 sheets were used after reconciling the 190 delivered sheets with 24 returned sheets. Tear-off photographs documented the decking for the insurance supplement. The carrier subsequently approved the OSB layover.

Four existing skylight openings required custom units with custom flashing. The team photographed the inside rough openings and outside curb reveals, then coordinated the measurements with VELUX and ABC Supply. VELUX confirmed that all four units were the same size, and the roof schedule was coordinated around their special-order delivery. Construction included new skylights, curb work and flashing at the openings.

Natural Wood Malarkey RidgeFlex caps accompanied the field shingles, with Malarkey Smart Start starter, Arctic Seal ice-and-water protection and RhinoRoof UDL synthetic underlayment beneath the roof covering. The roof order included 282 feet of hip and ridge, black Lomanco static vents, black drip edge and gutter apron, and pipe and electrical-mast flashing. Extra ice-and-water protection was specified for the low-slope shingle area using the manufacturer's installation requirements.

Roof-to-wall work included step and wall flashing, chimney flashing, and trim cut in and painted to match the siding. During the build, the crew also formed and installed metal at a 160-foot roof transition before installing the adjoining shingles. The roofing order recorded completion on August 22, 2025. Supplementing continued after construction, following the earlier approval of the custom skylight bid.

The later gutter phase used six-inch Bronze gutters totaling 387 feet, with 360 feet at the first story and 27 feet at the second story. Nine first-story three-by-four-inch downspouts and two second-story-to-first-story downspout connections were included in that completed scope. The gutter order recorded completion on November 12, 2025. This later phase expanded the project beyond the original roof contract's drainage scope.

These guys are excellent. Extremely professional, reliable, and . communicative. Lavell was my project manager and he was awesome. I had to get him out for quotes several times for a project on a house I was buying (sellers were trying to hide problems and fake fixes but weren't smart enough to get away with it) and Lavell happily kept coming back out and getting me the info I needed each time. When it came time to complete the job, the crew did fantastic work - very thorough and looks great. Th... Read more

IndyRoof & Restoration did a great job from beginning to completion. The field inspector, Mark Sopke, was my initial and ongoing contact through the entire project. Can’t think of anything else he could have done to make the process easier. Highly recommend both Mark and IndyRoof. I even called my insurance agent and told them how good they were.

We hired Indy Roof & Restoration (IR&R) to replace our roof and gutters this summer, and we are very happy with the result! We had taken some storm damage (hail and wind) last winter, and IR&R was able to work with our homeowner's insurance to get the majority of the replacement paid for! We are also very happy that IR&R is a certified installer of Malarkey shingles. Funny name, I know, but these might actually be the best shingles money can buy. We went with Malarkey Legacy shingles, as we want... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

We have been creating five-star experiences since 2018 and have built a team that takes the stress out of roofing and home restoration. With over 1,500 five-star Google reviews and a consistent A+ BBB rating, our reputation speaks for itself, but what we are most proud of is how we treat people when things go wrong. We are available 24/7, we offer financing for eligible clients, and we assist homeowners through the insurance claims process from start to finish. One of our customers had a roof replacement approved through insurance after other contractors said it could not be done, and that is exactly the kind of advocacy we bring to every job.

Yes, navigating a storm damage claim is one of the things we do best. When hail, wind, or rain damages your roof, we conduct a thorough inspection with photo documentation so you have a clear record of everything that was affected. We assist you through the entire claims process, working directly with your insurance company to make sure all damage is properly reported and covered. Homeowners across Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, and the surrounding Indiana communities have relied on us to get approvals that other contractors could not secure.

Yes, and this is one of the things that genuinely sets us apart. Beyond residential roofing, commercial roofing, and gutter installation and repair, we also offer vinyl siding installation, James Hardie siding installation, window replacement, skylight installation, attic insulation, interior and exterior painting, and water and fire restoration services. We even provide mold removal for homes affected by water damage. Whether your home needs one service or a full restoration after a major event, we handle it all under one roof so you are never managing multiple contractors or wondering who is responsible for what.

It starts with a free inspection. We come out, assess the condition of your roof, take photos, and give you an honest recommendation on whether repair or full replacement makes more sense for your situation. If insurance is involved, we help you through that process as well. Once you decide to move forward, we work with you on scheduling, material selection, and financing if needed, and we keep you informed at every stage. Our goal is to make a stressful situation feel manageable, not more complicated.

Yes, community involvement is a core part of who we are, not just a line on a website. We proudly support Fountains of Hope, which works to provide clean drinking water in third-world nations, and Habitat for Humanity, where we provide free roofing for homes being built or renovated for families in need. For us, being a good roofing company means being a good neighbor, and the work we do in the Indianapolis community and beyond is a reflection of the values we bring to every project we take on.
