This Bernardston home, located in the Franklin County–Greenfield area, originally featured an older screw-down metal roof—a once-popular system with exposed fasteners that eventually began to rust and loosen around seams and the aging skylight. The front slope of the roof still showcased its original slate, which had plenty of life left and added a timeless, historic charm. The homeowners wanted the back of the roof to once again match that look, just as it had under previous owners. Using the SlateTec system, we installed new natural slate shingles that recreate the traditional appearance while offering a lighter, more durable installation. The lower rear section, which had too shallow a pitch for slate, was replaced with a double-locked, mechanically seamed standing seam roof in Englert Slate Gray, paired with a new skylight for lasting protection. The result is a perfect union of heritage and performance, blending classic slate beauty with modern metal reliability.
