Customer Testimonials

UPDATE: Since my review, the owner of the company reached out to learn more about my experience. The owner expressed sincere concern and has since visited my home twice to ensure that all issues with the roof are corrected. I believe our experience was an outlier and that the company does care about customer service and the quality of its work. I've appreciated the efforts made by the company and its owner. I would not recommend using this company. I will explain the experience we had as a warning to others. I'll try to condense this down since it's a long history and unfortunately is not over yet (roof not installed properly and still waiting for repairs). We received a quote from Jack at Shiner, which was competitive with other bids we received. We went with Shiner because they guaranteed a quicker timeline from contract execution to installation. We signed the contract and waited. No one contacted us for over a week and we had to reach out to Jack to get an update. This is a common theme (i.e. no show and no update until you proactively call the office to check-in). When we did get in-touch with the office they gave us an installation date that was over 3 weeks longer than we'd initially been promised by Jack. Now to the actual installation of the roof. We received multiple installation dates that were subsequently delayed due to weather. This is totally understandable but we only learned of these delays when we would call the office the day of to find out when the crew was arriving. The eventual crew seemed competent and did the full roof replacement over a period of 3 days. No major complaints other than all the old nails that were scattered over our yard and street (one of our cars subsequently had a flat tire from a nail that I'm sure was from the roof). Once the crew left we found out that they had installed the wrong material on a flat portion of our roof. This part gets a little technical, but during the bidding process, Jack told us that the only material Shiner felt comfortable using on the flat roof was something called TPO as opposed to other companies that quoted a material called EPDM and Shiner would only install TPO (which also happens to be more expensive). As it turned out, Shiner installed EPDM. They gave us the option of reinstalling with TPO or refunding us the difference, which was fine . However, note that if we had not discovered this on our own, it would never have been flagged independently by the company. The installers and inspectors clearly don't talk to the sales team preparing the bids. The roof was installed in December 2020. It is now February 2021 and we've had two different leaks in our attic. An inspector from Shiner came to take a look and told us the shingles in those areas were nailed incorrectly. We were given a repair date a week later. The day before the repair the office called to tell us the crew would be out "first thing in the morning." By 10:30am the next day I called the office to get an update since no one had arrived. I was then told that the roofing material had not been delivered and the crew would not be out for another 3-4 days. Again, not only is this aggravating but it's completely unprofessional -- (1) why schedule work to be done before you have the material; and (2) why did I need to call to get the update that the crew wouldn't be coming out instead of someone from Shiner calling me first. When I spoke to Christine the office manager she told me it wasn't her fault that the material wasn't delivered and had no explanation for why Shiner was unable to call me in advance about the scheduling delay. We never write these kind of reviews, but honestly it has been the worst experience both from a customer service and quality of work perspective. The company has pretty positive reviews otherwise, so hopefully we are just an unfortunate outlier, but I thought it was important that prospective customers be aware of our experience.

We highly recommend Shiner Roofing. We had 4 estimates and Shiner’s price was in the middle. All the elements of a roof installation were explained but there was no hard sell pressure. We had seen the quality of their work in the neighborhood and knew they had been in business for 40 years. They did a great job of installing the new roof. After the shingles and tar paper came off we found the original decking was rotting. The project manager explained why we should get new decking even though it would be an added expense. He had taken multiple photos to show us the rotted and warped areas. The supplies arrived in a timely manner, and the clean up was complete. Everyone we worked with was pleasant and professional. I liked the extra step of spray painting black the metal pipes that come out of the roof. I had never seen that before and it blends the pipes with the shingles. The project manager came by the next day to inspect the completed job. A most satisfying experience.

Ryan, Mynor, and Leona were great to work with. They were responsive and paid attention to details. Ryan was the only one of 3 estimators that told me my neighbor’s siding had a hole that allowed water into my attic and that my attic venting was incorrect. His appraisal was thorough and complete with no upselling and I felt I could trust Ryan's judgment. He suggested a repair company to deal with the neighbor’s siding and some trim issues on my house which had to be completed prior to the roof being replaced. The repair company delayed several times and there were issues, especially poor communication. Delays were not on Shiner’s side, but I did hire that repair company at Shiner’s suggestion. Once repairs were finally done the roof installation moved quickly. Mynor inspected the job and found something not to his liking. He returned the following week with a colleague. They both checked things out in my attic and addressed the problem to Mynor’s satisfaction. I was happy with the work, found it to be a fair price and a good warranty on both the labor and the roof. I would hire Shiner Roofing again, but not the repair company.

We had a fantastic experience getting our roof replaced by Shiner. The team went above and beyond what we agreed(installed and connected exhaust vents through the attic). Jack Johnson was great to work with and extremely patient as I took a couple of months to discuss some changes with my HOA. He was also spot on about getting my roof replaced - we noticed that some of the boards were in bad shape once they came off. We live in a townhouse community, so cleanup was important. The roof installation crew cleaned up everything from our neighbors' yards to make sure there were no errant roofing nails and debris. This was much appreciated.

Had a roof replacement done in summer 2020. Estimator provided a detailed estimate and a number of options at the estimation visit. Once I selected Shiner, the job was scheduled shortly after HOA approval and was completed in the week. Installation team worked an extra-long day to complete the job in a single day rather than two, and team brought issues to my attention as they arose so I could immediately make a decision how to proceed. Shiner wasn't the cheapest estimate I got but I think they were the best value and I recommend them without any reservations.
