The skylight leaking was fixed by Shiner Roofing after we just came back from a trip and found no leaking trace in the areas that are underneath the skylight.

We take comments like these very seriously. At our initial visit with the homeowner in February, 2018, we determined that there was evidence of water leaking around the edge of the skylight glass itself, as evidenced by water staining on the inside of the skylight glass, which can be seen in photos taken that day. Accordingly, we recommended that the homeowner replace the skylight lid, at a cost of $668. In an effort to help our clients spend their money wisely, we did not recommend full flashing replacement at this time, as the evidence of the leak was on the skylight glass, above the flashing. In April, when the homeowner reported continued water infiltration at the skylight, further investigation showed that there was also a leak at the flashing on this same skylight, necessitating the replacement of the skylight flashing and surrounding shingles and underlayment. The typical cost for the flashing work would be $1225, which we discounted by 15% ($200) to $1025 as a courtesy to the homeowner. Given the common costs of materials and labor for skylight replacement and flashing replacement, it’s likely that the $1450 price quoted by other companies didn’t include an equivalent skylight or properly installed flashing and shingles. At the conclusion of our phone call with the homeowner on April 5th, 2018, she was told that management would be reviewing the file once again on her behalf in the next day or so, and that we would be back in contact once management had reviewed the entire file. We are still willing to attempt to work with the homeowner to find a resolution to the skylight leak, and will be reaching out once again, now that upper management has been afforded the time to review the file, project pictures, materials, and contract. We are sorry that the experience did not live up to our mission, which is to determine and implement the right construction solution for every customer.
