As a company, we are not believers in hidden add-ons within a project and we rarely have any. We work hard to quote a price that includes all costs, overhead, warranty and any risks that might come with the project. When we quoted your siding, we were not aware that there was any structural damage (wall framing, load bearing beams, rim joists, etc.) as this is very rare. When we found it, we immediately quoted you a price to do the work based on our best estimate, as we are not a carpentry company that does structural work every day. We also give you the option to decline and hire your own carpentry company just in case there is a better option. If our customer agrees to the quoted project add-on, we proceed with the work. Sometimes we lose money on quotes because the job is harder than we thought and sometimes we come out okay. We bid the add-on to the best of our knowledge, experience and risk associated with the add-on. Again, we rarely have add-ons and don’t often see structural damage. Since you had expressed urgency in the timeline, we try and accommodate the need and present price. We give the option for customer to decline and we will return when the work is ready for us to complete. If customer is okay with the new bid, we proceed as we did.
