At Venegas Contracting, every roof project brings a unique story, and a recent job in Middletown, MD was no different. The homeowners reached out to us for what they believed was a routine roof replacement, but as we got started, we discovered a much deeper issue. The ridge vent had been improperly installed, causing heat and moisture to become trapped in the attic. Over time, this buildup led to the delamination of the plywood decking beneath the shingles, making a simple roof replacement impossible.
Instead of just replacing the shingles, we knew we had to address the underlying problem to ensure the roof would last. The first step was removing all the damaged plywood decking. While this wasn’t something the homeowners had anticipated, they were committed to getting the job done right and understood how critical it was for the long-term integrity of their home. We replaced every sheet of delaminated plywood, ensuring a solid foundation before proceeding with the new roof installation.
Once the new decking was securely in place, we turned our focus to fixing the root cause—ventilation. The improper installation of the previous ridge vent had been the main culprit of the damage, so we took extra care to install a new, properly functioning ridge vent. With this corrected, the attic could now properly release heat and moisture, preventing any future issues with moisture buildup or heat trapping.
With the ventilation system fixed, we moved on to the final phase—installing the new shingles. The homeowners chose a beautiful shingle color that perfectly complemented their home’s charm. The result was stunning, both in appearance and in the structural improvements.
