OK, so my roof was done 14 years ago. I thought they did a great job at the time, I was very happy with it then. I recently had a poor gutter install done, while looking at where water was going after rain, I saw it was going down the side of my house. Well, I got a different guy to fix gutters properly, it was still going down my house. Now, the reason for the bad rating. The issue causing the problem is way the roof was done! Drip edge comes in two basic styles, one has no overhang and the other which is commonly used in Michigan has a built in 1/4" overhang. We use the one that has a built in overhang. We run ice and water under the drip edge as was recommended by the manufacturer in cold climates. We now also run ice and water over the drip edge which is now code. We started doing both approximately 10 years ago. We have done over 20,000 roofs in Michigan in the last 43 years and this is the first we have heard of your problem happening. The amount of water wicking back has to be minimal and why you haven't noticed in 14 years. It also you stated is running down the outside of your siding. It therefore has not caused any damage. We are sorry that you have had this problem. We would have been happy to address it if you had given us a call.

I highly recommend Melvin Belk Roofing. I have dealt with roofing companies for almost forty years and this is the best experience I have had. We had a leak in our roof. Kevin Rideout came and took a look at it. Kevin communicated to me last night to confirm the appointment and again this morning. He was on time, kind and competent and gave me news which resulted in no additional business for Melvin Belk, but then gave very useful advice on how we can get the problem resolved. He would not accep... Read more
