Karl Aughinbaugh created the Fish Barn on Route 102 as the centerpiece of Aughinbaugh's tribute to his late father-in-law. As the Fish Barn wasn't a house, then it was not subject to design requirements that allowed Karl to be creative in his design.

While the barn drew some attention there were also some concerns over public safety issues due to cars stopping to gawk at the landmark. Unfortunately, the project was unfinished as, according to a family representative, the barn "just became too much". This prompted the public to wonder what happened to the Fish Barn.
