We replaced an old roof and found a major surprise when we removed the old shingles. The roof on the addition of the house was improperly installed. The asphalt roof shingles were nailed directly to the rigid insulation board over the cathedral ceiling instead of solid wood. This means the shingles would not have held in place during a significant windstorm or hurricane. We installed new plywood roof decking and securely installed the asphalt shingles for a long-lasting roof.
