Pinnacle Roofing and Skylights was contracted to replace this roof on Walcott Ave in Jamestown RI. Along this road there are many old and historic properties so special care and attention was needed as part of this roof replacement. This house was built in 1883 and as such the roof deck was built of plank boards. As this wood was over a 140 years old, it was broken and no longer suitable for a new roof so the first step after removing the old shingles was to install a new plywood deck. This is required by the building code and manufacturer specifications to have a solidly sheathed deck to ensure the shingles are properly secured to prevent blow offs.


The next step was to install the CertainTeed Integrity Roof System which is a comprehensive roofing solution designed to provide maximum protection, durability, and performance. It consists of several components that work together to create a robust and reliable roofing system. The key elements of the CertainTeed Integrity Roof System include:

  1. Waterproofing Underlayment: This layer is installed directly on the roof deck to provide a waterproof barrier that protects against leaks caused by ice dams and wind-driven rain.
  2. Water-Resistant Underlayment: This secondary underlayment adds an additional layer of protection against water infiltration, ensuring that the roof remains dry even in severe weather conditions.
  3. Starter Shingles: These are installed along the edges of the roof to provide a secure base for the shingles and enhance wind resistance.
  4. Roofing Shingles: CertainTeed offers a variety of shingles, including architectural and designer options, that provide both aesthetic appeal and long-lasting durability.
  5. Hip and Ridge Caps: These specially designed shingles are used to cover the roof's hip and ridge lines, offering added protection and a finished appearance.

Color Choices

For the steep-slope roof sections, Pinnacle installed the CertainTeed Landmark PRO architectural shingles in the Max Def Colonial Slate color. For the low-slope or flat sections of the roof, Pinnacle installed the CertainTeed Flintlastic® SA roofing membrane is a premium, self-adhering SBS modified bitumen roofing material in Charcoal Black.


Timing

This house has meticulously cared for gardens and landscaping so to minimize any damage, we scheduled this for mid-March before the plants started to grow for spring. This mean the grounds were clear for easy clean-up after the roof was completed.

Over the weekend, Pinnacle Roofing and Skylights participated In a real life game of Hasbro's Operation at Rhode Island Medical Imaging in Cranston, RI.


Pinnacle assisted by removing a commercial dome skylight so that a MRI machine could removed by crane through a very small opening in the roof. RI Medical Imaging replaced this machine with a more modern MRI machine. After the operation was complete, Pinnacle Roofing and Skylights, sealed the "patient" up by reinstalling the skylight and ensuring the openging was sealed (flashed) properly.
